Mai 1958 versammelte der Gitarrist Kenny Burrell im Manhattan Towers Studio in New York sieben hochkar&auml;tige Musiker um sich, um im Stil einer lockeren Jamsession bluesige Originale, Balladen und Standards f&uuml;r zwei Alben aufzunehmen. W&auml;hrend "Blue Lights, Volume 1" noch im selben Jahr von Blue Note ver&ouml;ffentlicht wurde, erschien "Blue Lights, Volume 2" erst 1961. Das Cover ziert eine Illustration eines damals noch relativ unbekannten Andy Warhol. Auf All About Jazz pries Marc Davis den "wirklich demokratischen" Charakter dieser Jamsession und schrieb: "'Blue Lights' bietet eine wunderbare Mischung aus bluesigen St&uuml;cken - daher auch der Titel des Albums - und traditionellem Bop-Spa&szlig;, darunter eine ziemlich mitrei&szlig;ende Version von Duke Ellingtons 'Caravan'. Es handelt sich jedoch eindeutig um eine Gemeinschaftsleistung, und wer auf der Suche nach einem Gitarrenalbum ist, sollte sich anderweitig umsehen."
