"The Thing To Do", 1964 aufgenommen, war das erste Album, das Mitchell 1965 bei dem Label ver&ouml;ffentlichte (sein eigentliches Deb&uuml;talbum "Step Lightly", das 1963 aufgenommen wurde, erschien trotz Spitzenbesetzung erst 1980). "The Thing To Do" ist historisch allein schon deshalb bedeutend, weil auf dem Album zwei junge Musiker zu h&ouml;ren sind, die ein paar Jahre sp&auml;ter mit der Jazz-Rock-Band von Miles Davis Weltruhm erlangten: der Pianist Chick Corea und der Schlagzeuger Al Foster. Das Repertoire des Albums, das bei AllMusic die H&ouml;chstwertung von f&uuml;nf Sternen erzielte, reicht von Hard Bop &uuml;ber Balladen bis hin zu einem von Calypso beeinflussten St&uuml;ck.

Im Juni 1964 nahm Gitarrist Grant Green seine fulminante Post-Bop-Session f&uuml;r "Solid" auf, ein Album, das bis 1979 unver&ouml;ffentlicht blieb, da Blue Note mit den Soul-Jazz-Auftritten des Gitarristen Erfolg hatte. Bei diesem Auftritt spielte der Gitarrist in einem hochmodernen Sextett mit Joe Henderson, James Spaulding, McCoy Tyner, Bob Cranshaw und Elvin Jones.
